The Tribe has the responsibility to protect its citizens. Safety and protection is the highest priority. The tribe has ordered the forced removal or banishment of certain non-tribal members from tribal land in order to protect tribal citizens. This action of forcibly removing persons from tribal land is a sovereign tribal matter. The Passamaquoddy Tribe has historically used forced removal/banishment as a means of social control and punishment. This custom assists the Tribe in addressing a number of socially deviant and criminally dangerous activities including domestic violence . The safety and restoration of order in the tribal community are paramount. Any violations that disrupt the safety of Passamaquoddy members, families and community will not be tolerated.
