Tribal Brownfields Program Dale Mitchell: Brownfields Program Coordinator
The EPA provides funding to the tribe to operate a Brownfields program. Dale is committed to keeping the natural resources a part of the Tribe’s cultural right to use and respect. Dale was the former Water Resources Specialist monitoring the coastal waters for Red Tide. He is currently managing the tribal brownfields program to have tribal lands assessed and cleaned up. Dale assesses environmental impacts to Tribal lands and waters to insure tribal concerns are addressed in permitting and regulatory processes. His assessments have assisted the Tribe in making informed environmental decisions. Dale’s invaluable knowledge of the Tribe’s historical and cultural relationship to the land has benefited the department in developing environmental projects and goals. Some of the past and ongoing projects include cleaning up and demolishing the former Sipayik Corner Store and former Tribal Museum located by the Tribal Public Safety Building.
